@Marion: This is a pic of the base of this fountain. Built in 1867 from the ruins of the Lindell Hotel, which stood in another part of the city.

This isn't real ruins, is it? This looks like shot in some theme park when they wanted to use the mystery of old ruins for some pirate scene... Am I close?

@Mirko Herzner: Ruins ... just not ancient ruins ... used to create this fountain in 1867 from the remains of the old Lindell Hotel (which stood in another part of St. Louis).

The pond in which this fountain stands was designed to accommodate model sailboats. Tower Grove Park is a 289 acre "Victorian" park that contains more than 8,000 trees and shrubs that Henry Shaw had imported from all over the world.

interesting piece. it's like a sculpture of ruins. any of those pieces in it by itself would probably seem dignified on its own, even though broken, but together like that, they're just ruins
