I have been trying all summer for one of a dragon fly and have yet to capture the fleeting creatures. How do you all do it?? 27 Jul 2008 1:11pm @Tracey: Hey Tracey, thanks for the comment! Another photographer pointed out to me that dragon flies have a tendency to return, over and over again, to the same location. So pick one out and settle in. It worked with this guy ... he just kept coming back to the same lotus stalk ... must have been mighty tasty! I was even able to shift my location and capture him from different perspectives. Eric Fry from Houston, TX, United StatesFantastic! And you captured the eyes perfectly! 27 Jul 2008 2:09pm Monte Stevens from Fort Collins, United StatesReally nice macro especially when they are so elusive. 27 Jul 2008 3:55pm Observing from West Cheshire, United KingdomOne of natures beauties, magnificently captured here. AWESOME 27 Jul 2008 6:51pm Mirko Herzner from Mühlheim am Main, GermanySuch an impressive capture... Wonder why you choose ISO 400 for this one? 27 Jul 2008 6:58pm @Mirko Herzner: Thanks for asking, Mirko. I was shooting in early morning light with a bit of cloud cover. So the sun was in and out, changing the exposure dynamics. I was shooting with my Canon 70 - 200 mm lens with a Canon 500 D close-up lens attached. In order to get the DOF I was looking for I needed to shoot at least at f/11 ... so I boosted the ISO up to 400 to ensure that my shutter speed was fast enough even when the sun was under the cover of clouds. Obviously I captured this guy while the sun was out at 1/640 second. Jrask from Pasadena, United StatesGreat macro...what's that old saying?
