Water lily iiiPosted by Ron (Saint Louis, United States) on 17 July 2008 in Plant & Nature and Portfolio. The reflective quality of the water is heightened because of black pigment (dye) added to the water.

Could you say another word about your 'dye' explanation? I am not sure I understand what happened here... 17 Jul 2008 6:15am Betty from New Jersey, United StatesRon, this is absolutely gorgeous! Beautiful composition, very well done. But, can you explain the dye further? 17 Jul 2008 10:18am @Betty: Thanks for your feedback Betty and Mirko ... here's a bit more on the black water. These water lily images were taken at the Missouri Botanical Garden. The Garden has three large reflecting pools in a prominent location on its grounds – this photo was taken of one of the pools in early spring (before the lilies were brought outdoors). Several years ago I was fortunate to take an after hours tour of the Garden and our tour guide explained that the beautiful reflective quality of the water in the reflecting pools was because they used black pigment (dye) to make the water very, very dark. I hope I didn't give you the impression that this was something I did to enhance my photos. I'm just very fortunate to live within a mile of one of the world's most beautiful urban gardens. Lorraine from CanadaThey're all gorgeous, but this one, this one is subliminal, outstanding ;) 17 Jul 2008 1:14pm Michael Rawluk from Prince George, CanadaThat colour is astonishing and I guess the dye works because it is a stunning shot with that reflection. 17 Jul 2008 3:30pm zOOm from Paris, FranceFantastic reflection !
