Excellent light and colours in this well balanced composition. Lovely to look at!
The exposure captures the detail in the petals from the shadows to the highlights. I'm wondering if you keep your 40D on highligh tone priority, because this is typical of the exposure latitude that I'm getting with my 40D set that way.

@Liz: The flower looks like what we call vinca (commonly referred to as periwinkle) but these are wildflowers ... they're blooming along the edge and into woodlands here in the center of the U.S. right now ... they'll be gone before too long ... once the heat begins to ramp up.
