The first Japanese iris of the season from my water garden ... these flowers are really quite small and dainty, but at 200 mm they appear a bit more robust ...
Wonderful colors and the composition is lovely. Excellently presented as well Ron.

Beautiful flower and photo! I like how the flower stands out from the black background. The colors are fabulous. Nice composition. Good focus. Very nice. I've come to appreciate Iris as cut flowers this year.

powerful effect for such delicacy, congrats on that Ron :)

I agree with Lorraine, both powerful and delicate. I like the gradation of purple very much (choice of backgroud in harmony with the one of iris)

Sweet. A water garden... that sounds lovely. Nice use of black background.
Having nothing to do with your photo except the title, my mind often leaps to a pretty extensive familiarity with music lyrics. In this case, lines from Hal Ketchum:
I draw my pay down on the docks I send it home to Mary I might hold back a dollar To wash this pain out of my back But the pain keeps getting clearer And Mary your face just keeps on fading Now the light shines through this bottle Memories all fade to black
All of which is a long way of saying I was moved by your photo. Thanks!

nice colors! how'd you get the black background?

@danthro: I cut this one and a yellow one and brought them inside (it was raining outside) and photographed it in front of a black backdrop.
beautiful, nice selective focus, nice colour

very nice! the colors, the lighting and the way the petals are positioned brings a dramatic effect to it.

Talk about drama! This is really impressive and the colors really give power to the image.

A very striking image, Ron. One of my first thoughts was how you got that background, but I see that you've already answered that question.
